Thank you, Beth. It was an answer to prayer for me in my classroom as well. I truly did ask God to help me to know how to teach writing and grammar in a way that all of my students could understand and remember.Since I was stuck in a chair because of knee surgery, I spent a lot of time trying to apply what I have learned about learning over the years. My son, Jason, gave me the initial idea and the rest is history. So glad it is helping your son.
Sincerely,
Gail

I just wanted to tell you in writing, what I've been telling you on the phone. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this program!! It has truly been a God-send for my multi-sensory learner. As I told you on the phone, up until a few months ago, I was absolutely convinced that my youngest son had some kind of learning disability. God opened my eyes and revealed to me that he just learns differently and I needed to find the right key to unlocking the door to his learning style. "Applied Grammar" has been that key!! I can't thank you enough for creating this program and making school a joy for us, instead of a daily battle!! God bless you!!

  HI,

Try to focus the color on the job being done rather than the word.

Words can do different jobs and it is the job that takes the color. this will help her understanding of the function of words and the way the words are put in each sentence to do a job.
Another thing you can do is take the words that have multiple jobs and there by have different colors at different times and just to a lesson on using one word at a time going over the multiple ways it can be used.
Hope this helps.

Hi! I just purchased the Intermediate Set & had a question: My daughter (7th grade) knows the basic parts of speech, but I think she is going to get confused labeling some of the types of words since you use a few different terms than what she's been practicing. For example, in Lesson 1, sentence #2, the word HOW is labeled as INT., but she has learned that word to be an adverb. When I looked to see what INT. represented (on p. III of the manual/WKBK), I saw that it is question words. However, I saw that in the answer key, the words that are listed in the Interrogatives category (blue) are actually labeled as helping verbs (green). For example, Lesson 1, sentence #2, labels DID as a helping verb, but it's listed as an interrogative word on p. III. In Lesson 4, sentence #1, WOULD follows the same pattern. My daughter has ADD and Winston Grammar got tricky after awhile b/c of all the underlining, arrows, etc. I'm afraid she's going to become really confused if she reads on one page that words are categorized a certain way but then gets those same words marked wrong b/c they're a different color and description in the answer key, especially since she's already learned them.

Do you have any suggestions for us?

Thank you so much!

Check out this video. This is what drives me to work at my writing. Children, parents, families all trying to help their children. My heart goes out to those families who struggle with kids with differences that make living hard. I want to help in any way that I can. God willing, I will be inspired to come up with ways to help.
